Stan kids have been pushing lately for him to let them buy lunch at school. His wife packs them lunches every day. For one, it’s healthier than the options they have at school and two, it’s cheaper. But for some reason, it’s lame to bring lunch from home and, of course, they want to be like the cool kids who buy lunch.
This weird phenomenom has been going on for years. Stan, Rich, Nicole, and Ryan all remember it the same way when they were in school. All the cool kids bought lunch and you were lame if you brought your lunch. But why is that? Was it the same way when you were in school?

Im in high school and you just dont want to bring your lunch. I think kids do think it is cool to buy there own lunch and lame to bring in from home. I just started high school and my mom told me that I had to bring my lunch to school and I frecked out!! Right now I buy my lunch and so do lots of others but there is always that kid that brings there lunch and yes we do think of them as nerds.
Okay, I have to teenage boys and they think it’s “gay” to pack your lunch simply because their friends don’t pack their lunch. It’s all about fitting in and not wanting to be labled a misfit or nerd. I seriously think that the schools serve total slop and would prefer to pack a lunch for my kids but it’s whatever makes them happy. Gotta keep them happy in school
I have the world’s PICKIEST 6 yr old…everyday I bake 6 chicken nuggets, wrap them in alum foil, baggie of Cheeze it party mix, baggie of mini oreos…and that is what she ate EVERY day at school in kindergarten and so far in 1st grade. She could care less what anyone else thinks…If I made her eat at school, she would just sit there and look at it and be hungry every day. So I think it is up to the kids…Let them look at the menu and give the option of how many days a month they can choose to buy or bring lunch. Pick you battles!
I’m in college and I take my lunch to school. I even got a cool Scooby Doo lunch box
. I never really got the whole ‘fitting in’ thing. I was different in high school and people liked me for it. Sure I got made fun of, but those were people who were less intelligent than I. Besides, school food sucks!
I’m a sophomore at a really expensive private school in Pennsylvania. The lunches are really expensive and I spend about 5 to 10 dollars a day on lunch. I’m given a $75 limit on my account there but it usually only lasts a couple of weeks. However, no one gets made fun of for bringing lunches. A lot of people do it, the school costs over $7000 dollars a year and so with the economy parents will pack lunches to save money. I buy my lunch everyday and our school food is not gross. Now Italian dunker’s, those are gross, they served those at my grade school and you were stuck with garlic breath the rest of the day
As a salesperson of school pizza and working with foodservice directors, the products served at schools are the most nutritionally regulated of any segment. Directors utilize software that helps them keep their menus within Federal dietary guidelines and eating at school IS sometimes the best meal some kids get all day! Some of the schools I have called on look like college cafeterias and offer so many more choices than I ever had in school. For the cost issue, directors can charge what the market will bear although is around $2/day on average. Let em think they’re cool and eat at school!!! : )
For me and my friends in high school, it all depended on what was being served in the cafeteria and if we wanted to spend our money on that instead of movies, make-up, etc…
We all usually brought our lunches, but sometimes we’d split a fries from the cafeteria. Oh and of course we always participated in the pancake breakfasts for charity! There were never really any stigmas for bringing or buying your lunch–though you were definitely cooler if you ate your lunch outside the cafeteria (be it on campus or off).
It’s cool to buy lunch, I always like saving the money by not eatting and spending it on beer or weed.
When you buy lunch, you need money. Having money is cool. When you pack your own lunch to school, it shows the world you don’t have cash in your pocket.
Waste of money!! I say Stans kids should get a job if they want to buy their lunches!
I’m a Junior in High School and i live with 4 other brothers and sisters and im the only one that prefers to bring my lunch to school! We don’t have all that much time to eat so once you finish paying you have only 5 minutes to eat! It’s insane. Plus the schools food isn’t all that healthy/great so I think most kids would want to bring their lunch.
I have 3 kids that are all school age(7th, 5th, and 2nd). I think it is healthier for them to take thier lunch and snack. It saves money also. Last year my husband and I were paying $50 a week for them to eat lunch and snack at school. So this year we made some changes. The girls seem to like it pretty well. My boy dont like to take his lunch so much.
