We all know how Ryan loves his conspiracy theories. Well, he’s got another one to throw on the pile – gyms. Yes, gyms. Apparently, Ryan is convinced that gyms are just a big rip off, and you don’t need them to lose weight. He’s lost a ton of weight without going to the gym.
Ryan is also quick to point out that there are tons of people who eat like crap and go to the gym all the time, and don’t lose any weight. He believes it’s all about what you eat. Stan, Nicole and Rich think he is out of his mind. Of course the gym helps you lose weight. Not only does it help you lose weight but, more importantly, it gets you in shape.
Ryan is a firm believer that if you eat right, and do other physical activity that does not involve going to a gym, you can achieve your healthy and physical goals. The rest of The Morning Mash Up agrees that healthy eating habits are important, but in order to really get into great shape you do need to get to the gym, or else you will just be slimmer, but not have any tone to your body that lifting weights and other gym exercises/equipment can give you.
Do you agree with Ryan that you don’t need the gym to lose weight and be healthy? Or do you side with Rich, Stan and Nicole and think that working out at the gym is an important part to losing weight and being healthy?

Ok, if you want to lose weight you HAVE to have a healthy diet but also go to the gym to work out. If you don’t you are just going to look saggy and flabby and gain it all back if you take one day off the died! Look at the P90X workouts, you are doing hardcore cardio and on a diet plan. So, yes you do need to go to the gym!
My Name is Kyle. I am a 4th year medical student and a certified personal trainer. Diet and Exercise in combination are better than doing either individually. Yes Diet control will give assist you in having a calorie deficit to lose fat. Exercise will aid this process in increasing metabolism throughout the day giving you a higher overall caloric expenditure throughout the day not just when you’re on the treadmill. Exercise also boosts fat burning hormones. Finally exercise helps build lean body mass which requires a calories to maintain thereby increasing the your daily caloric need. If you match that with a rigorous diet you will maximize your fat loss. Tell Ryan to suck it up and get a gym membership.
I am commenting on the gym and weight loss dispute. As I have personally lost 58 pounds over the last year, it was all strictly done by dieting. The second I threw in the gym weight started to come back as it was turning into muscle mass. Do the general cardio work outs to build your metabolism and get your 10000 steps in and eat properly and you are laughing.

A good diet and going the gym work great together, plus the more muscle you have the more calories you burn throughout the day
Hey my name is Karly. I am from Ripley West Virginia and I’m only 13 but know alot about this stuff. My parents worked out for about 3 months about 2 years ago. They both lost alot of weght. But at they same time they changed their diet a little. I think it was the exercise that made them lose weight. Even if it wasnt it made them fit and they weren’t icky saggy looking (:. Tell Ryan to get a membership for the 13 yearold in WV! (:
listening to your debate this morning is really funny…I have been on a food plan since the 17th of August and have lost over 40 pounds and 60 inches over all and have not stepped one foot on a treadmill or in a gym. The nutritional aspect of the plan and drinking a lot of water has shifted my metabolism for me to lose weight. Now dont get me wrong, i exercise but not a the gym. I take my dog for walks, I park at the end of the lot and walk to the store and I also use small weights and an exercise ball at home. But as far as running miles and miles at the gym it is a waste of money if you do not make any changes to your eating habits and diet.
I have to say you don’t have to go to the gym but I do think that you need to exercise. I like to do it at home with the P90 X or take my daughter for a walk. So I think you need Diet and exercise but I would rather not go to the gym with all the “meat heads”
Over the past couple of years I have changed my life losing a similar amount of weight to Ryan. In listening this morning I did understand where Ryan was coming from. The gym does play a major role but there is a balance. I think that allot of people when starting out focus on the cardio and get into the habit of 1-2 hrs a day. This is what I would call “chronic cardio”. This type of training leads to strong cravings for sugar which starts the path to failure. At the end of the day it is 80% diet but weight training in a constructive manner will make results, better, faster and the end result will look more like you envisioned.
