Is There Really A Difference Between Creamer and Milk?

This morning Rich ordered a coffee with milk. Unfortunately for him, when the girl at the counter brought him his coffee she brought it with cream instead of milk. When Rich pointed it out and asked for milk instead she said “aren’t they the same thing?” Then Rich argued with the girl and insisted that there is a huge difference between the two.

Nicole, Ryan, and Stan, for once, agree with Rich. You can absolutely tell when there is cream in your coffee instead of milk, and also with he different types of milk. Do you get mad when people bring you one instead of the other? Was Rich being a little crazy? Can you really tell the difference between cream or milk in your coffee or tea?

For once I agree with Rich aswell!! You can totally tell the difference. I find cream is thicker than milk and it leaves a weird taste! I won’t send it back if it has cream instead of milk, I just won’t enjoy it as much!

  2. Kristi says:

I agree, milk isn’t creamy enough and just waters it down!

absolutely! rich is right on with this one! you can totally tell the difference, and they’re “like, not the same thing.” if someone who is lactose intolerant asks for a coffee with “soy” .. but gets it with heavy cream, they certainly know right away – especially if they make the mistake of testing it out first.

Milk is anywhere from skim to 1,2,or 3% butterfat. Where as cream is.
10% (we call that half &half ) or thicker coffe cream is 18% buttterfat! So definatley a difference. I agree with Rich and think the girl behind the counter needs some more training if she is going to be in the coffee serving business to customers. You don’t mess with Anyones morning coffee. Bri

she’s obviously not a coffee drinker and doesn’t get how important that cup of coffee is – I agree with Rich, if you ask for milk you should get milk. Don’ t mess up my coffee, it sets a bad tone for the rest of the day. ;)

  6. Josh says:

has anyone ever heard of Whole Milk? Creamer is simply a slightly thicker / fattier version of whole milk. Or better, just go out to Bessie in the barn and get your half n half straight from the source!

  7. Rich says:

Cream and milk have nothing in common when it comes to coffee. Cream makes coffee good, 18% for the win but to be semi-health conscious I stick with the 10% (not that is all that healthy really) and the coffee is noticeably lighter with cream. Milk simply mutes the taste of coffee but unless you poor half the bag in there it remains on the dark side. Personally it is either black (if no cream is available) or what we Canadians call a Double Double (Tim Hortons = best coffee on the planet fyi) which is 2 cream and 2 sugar! Then water the rest of the day lol

Absolutely.. there is a difference. I have to have my coffee mate Vanilla creamer! And if I’m on a trip or something and can’t have my creamer.. my day is just not the same. Everyone has their own way of drinking coffee and if it’s not the “norm” for you.. It can ruin the coffee all together! So w/ all that said. I do agree, there is a difference for sure!!! Any true coffee drinker would agree!!

Hi, I work at a Tim Horton’s… and yes there is a difference… difference in taste … difference in looks.. so you are right to ask for milk instead of cream.. and if you would have came to my store I wouldn’t have given you attitude about it.. lol

  10. Halfandhalf says:

Has to be half and half, the real stuff, not the phony “creamer”. There is a huge difference – milk does water it down. Anyone who works in a coffee place should know this. BTW, Tim Horton’s is NOT good coffee. They still brew it in glass carafes for pete’s sake. Yuck!

    Rich Davis presents

    MARCH MILK-MUSTACHENESS!!!
Apparently, both he and Lindsay Lohan are both MILK-A-Holics!!!
    (“Milk-a-what???!!!”)

I totally agree with Rich. I HATE when I get cream in my morning tea instead of coffee. I usually never find out until I’m long gone from the store, so I get stuck drinking “subpar” tea. You are right to demand milk, and to complain when you don’t get it.

  13. Rich is right, if you order something, you should get what you asked for. I think the server should of apologized, and corrected her mistake, the customer is always right, even if it is Rich the Outlaw. P.S. go Orangemen.

  14. Judy says:

As I said when I called the station. Yes there is a difference between cream and milk, especially if you order skim milk (no fat versus fat in the cream). You said you used Splenda, so that means you didn’t want the extra calories and fat in your diet. I would have complained to. Rich you were right to complain, more power to you. :) Your name is Rich, but you don’t want your coffee rich, right.
