How Many Times Can You Wear A Shirt Before Washing It?

Yesterday, The Morning Mash Up got into a conversation about clothes. Ryan casually asked everyone what their laundry habits regarding t-shirts was assuming that, like him, everyone washes their shirts every time they wear them. However, Nicole said that she will wear her t-shirts twice, sometimes three times depending on how long she’s worn them and their condition/smell, before she washes them.

The guys were pretty surprised. They expected that Nicole would wash her shirts after just one wear. In fact, Rich, Ryan, and Stan (for the most part) all wash their shirts after one wear. Stan has made a few exceptions though, and is guilty of wearing a few shirts twice.

Nicole doesn’t think it’s absolutely necessary to do this. If you got really sweaty then yes but if not, you can stretch it another wear. The guys think that’s just nasty. What about you? How often do you wear a shirt before you throw it in the wash?

Gross. You need to wash your shirt after every wear. But I expect nothing less from a pimple Popper

I depends, when I’m somewhere hot I’ll change my shirt every day, but where I am now (Holland>Europe) its 52 deg. I don’t sweat all day, so there nothing wrong with wearing them again.

If there’s no sweating going on, then sure, I wear a shirt twice. After that second time though, it needs to be washed. Jeans/pants also get washed after the second wear. And really, shouldn’t jeans/pants be washed after the first wear too? They cover your butt and hooha and EVERYONE passes gas at least once in those jeans. -shrug- Talk about gross.

I think that it depends on what kind of shirt….t-shirts you should totally wash but dress shirts that you would need to dry clean are okay for a few wears as long as you don’t get dirty and sweaty.

  6. Lynn says:

You better start washing your bed sheets too if you worry about sweating so much in your shirts then. You sweat way more in your sleep than you do during the day!

  7. Barbara says:

I wear everything ONCE, t-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters! ONCE

I use the smell factor….if its a work shirt then I definitely toss it in the hamper. If its a t-shirt that I wear on the wkend, its not dirty..because I rest on the wkend….So my clothes are good and not dirty (smells)…socks I despise wearing more than once when dirty…ECK!!!

Okay so if your clean enough;; and don’t stink up the shirts go ahead wear them as you please;; but I personally do not like to wear shirts more than once with out washing them (: so I am on both sides.

I use rule of smell. If I don’t spill anything on myself, I will wear a shirt twice or even three times. I live in Northern Canada, and rarely sweat because fo heat. Sometimes, though, you just know that you have to wash a shirt, but throwing it in the wash JUST because you wore it is ridiculous and wasteful of water. If it’s not dirty, I’m going to wear it.
Same with pants, I wear my pants at least two times, sometimes way more, before I wash them. I’m rarely in my jeans though, as a University student, I only wear jeans to class, the rest of the time, I’m in PJ’s or sweats, so I can get away with wearing the same pants to almost a week’s worth of classes.

I wash shirts every 2-3 wear and pants sometimes 5

I usually wear a tank top 3 or 4 times before I wash it. Its a waste to wash a tank top every time you wear it. Plus if you really like it, your going to wear it over and over again whether its washed or not.

Ok, if we are talking about a T-shirt that you wear under hoodies or sweaters, you have to wash that bad boy after every wear. The whole purpose of the t-shirt is to block the “grossies”, i.e. sweat etc from the sweater so you don’t have to wash the sweater….T-Shirt = 1 wear only…

I will wear my tshirts, sweaters or what ever more then once. The only smell they typically have would be perfume from my skin, and I smell that to make sure I put on the same perfume the next time. I am on Nicole’s side on this, and jeans too. My husband who is greasy and smelly, yes I wash his each time he wears them, but I don’t want his head touching my pillows either. I can tell which one is his by just looking at it and smelling it.

I think it all depends on where you are wearing the shirt. We ALL wear our jeans a few times before washing them again. I think if Nicole doesn’t have POOR hygen then it should be ok for another day. LOVE LISTENING TO YOU GUYS!!!!

    Hi ..long time..first time…

Don’t know about T-shirts however, In basic training, I went 4 weeks wearing the same underwear…It was hot down in Texas and there was some chaffing, but it didn’t want to fold and iron fresh undies to pass inspection all the time. :)

Hello, i wear t-shirts more than once if they still smell clean.

To the crazy lady who wear a different bra every day…how many bras do you have? If I wear a light colored shirt, I need a light colored bra..and those are few and far between..they can’t be dirty EVERY DAY!

  19. Brandi says:

I will wear a shirt probably twice or, like Nicole, maybe three times before I wash it. If I didn’t get anything on it, or didn’t sweat, why should I have to wash it?

  20. Stephanie says:

NO matter what I’m sorry but you wear a shirt it’s to the wash after no matter if you stink or not. I’m sorry Nicole but you were in the wrong on that one if you put your shirt back in the closet or drawer it’s GROSS!!!!

  21. bobby says:

twice and sweat does become a factor.

  22. Lauren says:

i wash after one wear because its dirty and kind of grose to wear a shirt twice
but i never wash my jackets accept for like after about 3 wears(:
but if my t shirt isnt dirty i sometimes wear it a second time(:

I dont thinks its gross at all. I wear v-necks once and throw them away but on the other hand When I wear button up shirts or polos I usually wear them twice because washing them often makes them look dingy and not worth wearing at all. If I put on a shirt for 3 hrs and come home and take it off is it really that dirty? Well that depends on what I was doing. If your all freakin upset because she wears a shirt more than once I hope you change your sheets every time you wake up, I hope you wash your hat after each time you wear that, I hope you take your shoes off every time you walk into your house,I hope you walk around with hand sanitizer lol I hope you brush your teeth before and after every meal because thats far more disgusting than wearing a shirt twice

  24. I’m with Nicole, it really depends upon how long you wore the shirt, what type of activity were you engaging in and if you were sweating profusely. If you only wore the shirt 3 hours, you weren’t doing any physical activity, you didn’t sweat and the biggest issue were you some place that had an “odor” then what is the problem? I wear my things a couple of times because washing and dry cleaning are time consuming and expensive. How much water do you use when you wash your clothes? If you are in a state that has continual water shortages then do the right thing and wear your shirts more than once. Come on guys are you even looking at the realities of this situation! Get a grip here Nicole is right!

  25. tom says:

You made a great point Rita! Wearing a shirt more than once is env friendly!
