Nicole was giving a speech at her mom’s wedding dinner last night. She had planned it all out and took days to find the right words. Finally, she is standing there in front of everyone and trying to be as smooth as possible. The lights were a bit low so she couldn’t cheat with her print out as much as possible, and then it happens. Nicole misreads a line in her speech:
I learned about joy from you, and fun filled yesterdays. From you I learned forgiving of FRUITS both big and small.
It should have read:
I learned about joy from you, and fun filled yesterdays. From you I learned forgiving of FAULTS both big and small.
Needless to say, Nicole felt stupid. At least it was cute, and not a total epic fail. Although, Nicole feels like she totally blew it. Have you had any speech epic fails? Share your blunders with us below and make Nicole not feel so much like an ass.

I gave a speech at my oldest brothers engagement party which ended up being recorded and e-mailed to everyone. I had already had a few drinks and the speech was sprung on me at the last minute, I definitely made a comment about my Oldest brother being the better brother than my middle brother (who at the time was on deployment). This caused my mother to yell at me while I was still standing there in front of everyone. My middle brother just recently saw said speech and was of course not too happy about it…epic epic fail
It’s okay Nicole, it happens to the best of us
Nicole,
don’t let it bother you, we all mess up esp under pressure. And besides it’s always good to break the ice and make everyone laugh. I’m sure it didn’t bother your mom.
Have a great day
Nicole, don’t feel bad girl. Listen to this…my husband was the best man at his father’s 3rd wedding (that’s another story) and of course, he had to give a speech. My husband is known for his humor so it was only right to add humor to his speech–everyone would be expecting it–right?? Well, he began his speech without a hitch and got to the part, “every great relationship starts with rings. In the beginning, the phone would ring and the just the thought of speaking to one another was exciting. The engagement ring soon came after. The engagement ring has now turned into a wedding ring and we are all here today to celebrate your marriage. Now of course… the suffer-ring begins. OKAY, now, this is where he anticpated everyone laughing…that didn’t happen. Instead, he got cold stares and the room got so quiet you could hear a pin drop. He finished by saying, “here’s to dad and his wife.” Drank his entire glass of bubbly and sat down. Talk about tension in the room. Nobody moved or said a word! In any event, his dad and new mommy didn’t disapprove of his speech–that was all that mattered. We both got drunk and had a great time!
Nicole:
No worries – we had two ministers at our wedding 30 years ago and the minister who asked me my questions called me by my middle name (Dorothy) which I hate – ugh! But it was a moment to remember – a mistake that i never will forget.
its important to be forgiving of fruits as well as faults. hah
Remember that trainwreck of a wedding speech from the movie, The Wedding Singer? Nicole’s “oops!” moment pales in comparison. Check it out here:
