Dressing Dogs: Is It EVER Ok?

What do pirate dog's say? Arrrrrrff.

Nicole dressed her puppy Phoebe up for Halloween as a pirate dog. However, Stan and Ryan thinks she’s absolutely insane for dressing her up. It’s a dog, not a human. Pets are not supposed to wear clothes. They already have enough fur to keep them warm. People don’t get the point when you see most pets try and tear out of their clothes as soon as you put it on them.

Nicole thinks there is nothing wrong with dressing up your pets. Phoebe looked so cute and she didn’t mind wearing the clothes (the picture is coming, we promise). Is it cute and fun to dress or pets, or is it cruel and lame? YOU decide. Please.

I dressed up my 6 month old pug puppy as a devil and he hated it. He didn’t mind the cape so much but the horns drove him nuts. I don’t think it’s wrong at all to dress them up but you can’t force them to wear it.

I think its adorable to dress up you dog for halloween and any other day. Its so cute I have a 8 year old chocolate lab and since she’s too big to fit anything I dress up my 2 cats!! If I can find a outfit that’s big enough for my dog I woud dress her up in a heartbeat!!…we do put santas hat one her and elf hats and she loves it!—-christina from ronkonkoma longialsnd/new york

i think nicole and anyone else can do whatever they want with their dogs. even if they live in california, and in the parts where it never gets cold, they can put little boots on their dogs. i have a miniature dachshund and i have her a little football jersey for college game day and a little pink hoodie/cape thing in case she ever gets too cold outside. and a little shih tzu looks just too cute dressed up as a pirate!! i think ryan and stan need to lay off because they did not pay for the dog, they do not own the dog, and they do not have to take care of the dog.
but i will not lie: i do think it’s rather pathetic whenever people dress their dogs up on a daily basis. there is just no need for that..

When the snow comes, I think it’s practical to put clothes on your dog for walks. I wouldn’t want my puppy to get frost bite just to have a pee. I think it’s a bit silly to dress them up for Halloween, but to each their own. It’s like wearing sweat pants in public, socks with sandals, or bedazzling. All poor fashion moves, but people still do it.

I dress my black lab up as a cow and he loves it.. he doesn’t even try to get out of it..

Didn’t your mom ever dress you up in weird, embarassing outfits when you were a kid? We hated it but we had to do it because they were the boss of us. Now we are the boss of our dogs and we have the right to humliate them. It’s not like we’re physically hurting them or abusing them. And besides, dogs only hate to wear clothes they dogs love being nude. Again, going back to when we were kids, we loved walking around in only diapers, sometimes even totally nude. Pets are nude 364 days out of the year- they can survive 1 day of humiliation.

I have to dress my dog. He’s a greyhound…who don’t have much fur or body fat to keep warm. So he has a coat. We took him trick or treating and put flashing devil horns on him lol…he was so cute :) .

Okay so dressing up dogs are totally okay ! any animal actually. There is nothing wrong with it .. at all. Stan and Ryan just dont understand. animals can basically be like your kids. so does this mean that we shouldnt dress our kids for halloween either?? i mean reallyyyyy. :) ps.) your dog is supper cute nicole.

I guess it’s not wrong, to each there own but if the dog is hating it, then it’s just cruel. If they don’t mind it, then why not. I personnel don’t dress up my dog for Halloween or just for fun, but that’s just me. I do however put a coat on him when it’s really cold or snowy, he’s a min pin , he’s a wimp in the cold plus they don’t have much fir at all to stay warm.

I have PROOF that some animals LOVE to be dressed up!!! When I was 4 or 5 (about FIFTY YEARS AGO) I had my first cat. I played with her like most girls play with a doll. I dressed her in my old baby clothes (that my mom had given me) and I pushed her around in a baby doll carriage. NO CAT would EVER put up with that if she didn’t enjoy it!!!! A cat would bite, scratch, or simply stay out of a little childs way if it didn’t want to be around a small child!!! YOU CAN TELL WHEN A DOG LOVES TO BE DRESSED UP!!! and kitties too :)

AND one more thing. I have a bone to pick with either Rich or Ryan (whichever one was there this morning)!!!!!! You said that animals don’t have FEELINGS!!! I HOPE you don’t believe that because it isn’t at all true. All animals have feelings. ALL OF THEM.

  16. lindsey says:

I think if the animal doesnt want to be dressed up it shouldn’t ,, But if the animal is ok or doesn’t care then i think its fine .

  17. Terry says:

Children have been doing this forever and as long as the dog doesn’t mind, ie he/she is sitting still for the undertaking, he/she is probably enjoying the attention, no harm done!! Trust me they will let you know if they don’t like it!!

I put clothes on my pit bull. She has really short fur and needs a sweatshirt to keep her warm on cold days. Otherwise she just shivers.

We have three chinese crested dogs. They are hairless. We live in Northern Ontario, Canada. My dogs have a full closet with fleece, flannel and cotton jammies – all handmade to measure by a woman in the States. They have raincoats, winterjackets and snowsuits. I draw the line at shoes/boots though… They actually need these as they freeze in cool weather. If I need a sweater or jacket, then so do they… Would you like to go outside naked??
