Does Lindsay Lohan “Own” The Name Lindsay?

Nicole reported in her 411 yesterday that Lindsey Lohan is suing E*Trade for their latest baby commercial (see video 3 posts below) because she claims that they purposely used her name in connection with their “milkaholic” baby named Lindsey. While Rich, Nicole, Ryan & Stan don’t think the commercial is referencing LiLo it did raise an interesting question. Can anyone “own” a name?

Rich thinks there are definitely some people who “own” their first name. For example, if someone said to you, “Kobe” you’d most likely think of Kobe Bryant. Lindsey Lohan however, does not own her name. If you were to say to someone “Lindsey,” a hundred different Lindsey’s would pop into your head.

People like Oprah, Madonna, and Prince definitely “own” their name. All of them are pretty unique, but what about everyday names like Jack and Tom? Who “owns” those names? Who are some people that you think “own” their name? Do you people can even “own” a name?

Did this happen a few years back with Spike Lee and SpikeTV ? …. Nothing ever came of that except people thinking Spike Lee was an egomaniac

Don’t forget about Lindsay Wagner, the Bionic Woman and the sleep number bed endorser. She’s probably the only Lindsay that’s been on a bed on her back more than Lohan! Well…maybe not.

I like that her lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, said “Why didn’t they use the name Susan?” I think she is implying that Susan Sarandon is a milk-a-holic and LiLo isn’t. Sarandon needs to now sue Lohan.

Lindsey Lohan needs to get over herself. Last month the only Lindsey that everyone was talking about was Lindsey Vonn, maybe all the Lindsey, Lyndsay and Lyndsey’s need to file suit against Lindsey Lohan for tarnishing the name!

Ok when I saw the E Trade commercial I thought it was hilarious because the first person that came to my mind was my friend Lynsey. And I could totally see her being like that baby…lol. Anyways so in my opinion Lindsay Lohan does not own the name Lindsay, I think my friend does! So if Lohan does for some odd reason win this case then I think the judge should make her split the money with all the Lindsays (doesn’t matter how it is spelled) out there to teach her a lesson. Lesson being stop being so full of yourself and get a life drama queen! The world does not revolve around you!

How about Lindsey Vonn…..that is the first Lindsey that comes to my mind! And she is actually a good role model!

The facts of the matter is that E-Trade, by using the phrase milk-aholic, intended to make a reference to LiLo. They know it, she knows it, everybody knows it. If they had said “that airhead Jessica” or “that bimbo Britney”, it would have invoked the similar results. Britney is a perceived bimbo, Jessica is a proven airhead and LiLo is, well, NOT a MILK-aholic, but you get the idea.
