Over the weekend, Ryan got an email from an old high school friend from Baltimore, that hasn’t kept in touch at all, asking for Lady GaGa tickets. It’s not unheard of, but kind of annoying that this guy hardly knows Ryan and he’s asking him for hook-ups and favors, but it’s not the first time Ryan’s been hit up because of what he does.
People are always asking one of us for tickets or autographs. Another thing people like to do is ask if they can bring their kids to see stars like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Radio obviously isn’t the only place that that happens. Every job has it’s perks and everyone is going to try and take advantage of those perks, including your family and friends.
You’ll always have a friend that will ask for a discount, help or free stuff. The most frequent is probably trying to ask a police officer friend to help get out of a ticket. What kind of perks do you get from your job that people are constantly trying to take advantage of?

I am an athletic trainer and work directly with many athletes. While I was in college, I had an internship with the Cleveland Browns and all of my friends kept asking me to get autographs for them or to get them tickets to games.
I work for a doctor’s office and I had some friends that would constantly ask me if I could get them a prescription for their “sleeping problems” or some samples of medications. Especially my female friends, they would ask constantly if I could get them some birth control pills since I would get samples from work.
I write software for a living. Needless to say I get hit up for free tech support all the time. I love helping people but it got so ridiculous that I had to put an end to it. Now I flat out refuse when someone asks me for help and suggest that they call tech support. It’s angered a few people but, by limiting aid to immediate family and close friends, I have free time all of a sudden
I work as a Receptionist in a law firm and for some reason, my friends think that the lawyers I work with will give them free legal advice. They aren’t too happy when they learn that I work for a firm that only does Estate Planning and can’t help them get out of a speeding ticket or on suing someone for $100 bucks. But you have to look at the flip side too, how often do you ask friends for favors? You ever ask your buddy’s dad, who happens to be a mechanic, to look over the used car you’re about to purchase, or help you fix your engine? We’re all guilty of doing it.
I am an accountant, it is tax time. That is probably all I need to say really . . .
a few years ago i worked part time as a computer technician at one of those brick and mortar retail stores… needless to say every single one of my friends asked for my meager discount on laptop purchases and asked if i would do installations and setups for free.. it was annoying but i would only hope that when the time comes that i need their help, that they’re here for me…
more annoying is that my parents own a small company (20 people or so) none of whom are tech savvy in the least. At least once a week i get a phone call from either my parents or their employees asking how to fix a problem… 9/10 i have to drive over (20 mins) and remove a virus or undo some other mistake (1-3 hours). it’s Frustrating!
I work in printing and its always business cards or invitations. They don’t realize how much, I or the company has to pay for them to GIVE them for free…they would still have to pay cost. Cheap or Free is the best was to piss off your printer friend…just don’t do it.
I work for a cell phone company and people always ask me for free phones or a discount on their phone bill…They don’t reliaze I work off of commissions and if I give a phone away I lose money! Its like I don’t come to your work asking for give aways so don’t come to mine for them!
I’m an linguist for the DOD…needless to say I don’t get any random drive by translation requests lol
My husband used to work at a food restaurant and people were always coming in wanting free food hook ups and free drinks.
When i heard you guys talking about this yesterday, oh yes, i can relate! I’m a self employed firewood dealer and also used to plow snow commercially. Didn’t hear much from my so called friends all summer, but when a storm hit, it was HEY OLE’ BUDDY, OLE’ PAL, can you swing over and plow my driveway? Of course, firewood should be free to all my family and friends as well, right, WRONG. Working for a company, if someone gives something, it usually doesn’t cost the person who gives it, but the company, in my case, it hits me directly. This is the hardest thing to try and explain to them how it costs me and my business, but they get very upset at me, costing my relationship with family and friends.
I am in school for computer programming. I get people all the time that try and use me for tech support.. Its annoying. I use to do it for free but now I charge a 12 pack of beer if your in my family or $20 if your just a friend. I have a lot of beer and made some money.
