Rich has been feeling kind of down lately. He’s sick of the cold, the snow, the dreariness, and the northeast weather in general. He’s got a case of the winter blues. A lot of people get gloomy in the winter. Rich has been having thoughts of moving to the west coast because he just can’t stand the crappy weather.
He then decided that he needs to go on a vacation to cheer up and get rid of his winter blues. He’s been asking people where he should go and a lot of people that have been suggesting taking a cruise, which he has never done. However, a lot of people have told to avoid cruises at all costs. It seems that people either love them or hate them.
On the plus side, cruises allow you to see a couple different destinations in one trip, many meals & drinks are included, and there’s a lot to do on board. On the other hand, you usually only get a few hours in each destination before you have to re-board. Plus, germs and sickness spread like wildfire because you’re in close quarters, and alcoholic drinks cost a fortune and aren’t included in the “all-inclusive” part.
Do you think Rich should go on a cruise to get rid of his winter blues, or is it a bad idea? Help Rich with your comments below!

I think it’s a great idea. I went on the John Mayer cruise last year it waws MArch 27 thru march 31st and it was so much fun. The ship went from San Pedro Cali to Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Make sure it’s a cruise that has lots of different stuff for you to do, to keep you entertained though ’cause it can get boring.
Go for it Rich; cruising is easy fun and it helps blow the winter blues away.
How about i let you know 3/22/10 after I am back from a week long cruise to the Mexican Riverea! I am so physched after this winter here in the NY, CT, MA corner!
love you guys-i will miss you when i am gone-(but not enough not to go!)
Cruises aren’t for everyone. I have done several and really don’t think I will do another, mainly since on the last cruise I went on a crew member fell overboard and died. If you like to be waited on hand and foot, maybe you should do something all inclusive or take a trip somewhere to site see. For the money, the cruise is probably your best option, but with all the people and waiting in line for dinner, activities and a chair on the deck, sometimes it is not as relaxing as one might think. either way, get the hell out of Dodge for the winter!
Ah come..maybe if your 70, Rich..go someplace warm like Costa Rica ..never mind the old folks mode of travelling. I’m saving that for when I can no longer move and still want to travel. Pura Vida! Give it a try!
Cruises are the best. You get to experience some of the most beautiful places in the world and take pictures that you can put on your computer as wallpaper NEXT winter. I would recommend a line that lets you do your own thing rather than throwing stuff to do in your face constantly so you can relax. At the same time, be prepared for “Back-to-reality-itis”. The crew on your ship will take good care of you, and that’s easy to get used to. Kind of a letdown when you get back to the port. Go and enjoy!!
YEAHHH CRUISES! They are amazing. It’s cool to go to a few places in one trip, but it’s just as much fun on your days at sea. There’s so much to do on the boat, and the best part is you don’t have to do any of them… you can just lay out and relax all day. Pools, hot tubs, ahhhh.
Plus, cruises are GREAT for people watching. You see them same people over and over since you’re all in ‘the same boat’, and you make up nicknames for all the weird people.
I want to go on a cruise now!
Def!!! They are worth going on at least once! Just don’t make the mistake of a 7 day cruise (like my first)!!! WAY too long! I think 4 days would be perfect for a first timer.
Cruises are so worth it! They have the best food, service and entertainment, plus the shore excursions are awesome. My husband and I have gone on 2 (both with Carnival) and loved both, this year we are possibly going to try Princess. We are so addicted to cruising…so worth the money and so relaxing!
I think Rich should go on a cruise, and then Stan could have a friend sleep in Rich’s room while he’s gone.
Hey guys, Rich take the cruise! I went on my first for my honeymoon in oct. 08′ and i will be going on my fourth in April a six day cruise three of those days we will be in Bermuda. As the other caller said it is what you make it there is always something to do. May I recommend go with a suite though! As far as the ship asking you to come back at certain times it is for protection. There are many types of cruises to go on. just check them out online and you can find what you are looking for.
Hey Rich..DO the cruise man! U and I both know u need to get outta the northeast for awhile and get into some sunshine..I live in WV and of all ppl i know how it feels to b stuck indoors during winter and not much to do! It does bring u down and make u feel awful! Get on that cruise! Have fun. There r many different options in a cruise. So do some surfing on the webs and find out what they all got..if ur unsure then get a travel planner to help u on this. Get into the sun and get out of the blues..
Hey Guys! I love your show! Rich – you should definately go on a cruise! I’ve been on three (all with Royal Caribbean) and they were so worth it! They definately helped me make it to spring!
Rich, you need to get out of the blues! You’re such an upbeat person and you need to get away, even if it’s just for a week. Cruises are definitely worth every penny! I love to meet new people and there’s so many cool people to meet on the ship and off at the destinations as well! It’ll get your mind off the cold! I hope that you decide to go! And drinks really aren’t more expensive on a cruise ship compared to everywhere else.
Just go to The Bahamas… Atlantis, Paradise Island. Every heard of it? The name says it all…. forget about a cruise
A cruise is the absolute best way to “get away from it all”! No cell phone, not email (unless you want to pay for it)…all the food you can eat (good food, too). You can do as much or as little as you want. You get to go to several different places without having to worry about living out of a suitcase, parking, etc. My husband and I took a 7 day to the bahamas…a little long, but man was it good. We got to lay out on the beach, tour the islands, and generally relax and have fun. It’s the only way my parents travel anymore!
