Will Wealth, Fame and Glamour Really Make You Happy?

What Will Make You Happy?

Newspaper A.M. New York recently published an article on a newly released study in Journal of Research in Personality. The study followed 150 graduates from the University of Rochester in NY and Knox College in Illinois for two years and looked at their satisfaction with life, self-esteem, and relationships and they also tracked the participants’ levels of anxiety, stress, and physical problems and or complaints. What they found was pretty interesting. Graduates that went after wealth, glamour, or fame and achieved them, were the most anxious and unhappy. Those that had strong relationships and a sense of community felt a lot less stress and were more self-assured.

Rich thinks this article is complete garbage. Having to live paycheck to paycheck, not knowing how you’re going to take care of yourself, and possibly a family, puts a lot of stress on people and it’s not a situation that makes many happy. Stan disagrees with Rich, which is surprising since they usually see eye to eye. Stan’s been there before and he’s absolutely sees some truth in the article. A lot of money and fame doesn’t guarantee happiness, and when he was at the peak of his past popularity and achieved both fame and fortune, he found himself questioning his surroundings. Stan didn’t know who he could really rely on, who was really there for him and ended up wondering what all of it was for. Do you agree that achieving fame and fortune will actually make you less happy in the end? Have you ever been in a similar situation where you’ve gotten what you wanted but ultimately unhappy in the end?

I think that it helps you feel better…but it doesn’t make you happy. I have had looks and it was nice. Now I am overweight thanks to having kids and I hate that because people treat you differently. I am not even that overweight! I also think money doesn’ t make you happy but it makes life easier.
Things that make you happy is love, self-worth, and faith. I think people who are really focused on God can be happier than those who are not so much. I think that if you can have true real love you will always have happiness…thankfully I have that with my husband and my kids. I also think that you have to love yourself because otherwise life will always suck.
I hope that helps give some insight!

We have had money and we have been broke. What I notice is when people have money they are always wanting more and buying more. When you may not have as much you take more pleasure in the more simple things that tend to make more meaningful memories. My precious memories from childhood came from the stories my family told or the hiking as a family. It does not come from the big gifts that my family gave. I hope I can give the same wonderful memories to my boys. You can be happy in any situation. It is the people you chose to surround yourself with and attitude and thoughts toward life that helps to determine your happiness.
